DISCOVERY AT CABOT BEACH, 18 x 24 Original Oil Painting

I was born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa, where I was exposed to the University of Iowa’s wonderful art school and artists. My senior year in high school I was able to take art classes at the University as a special student. I went on in college, however, to major in theatre, attending Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Here I discovered I was not the actress I thought I was, but that I had a great talent in set design. I transferred to the University of Denver and completed my degree, receiving my BFA in Art/Art Education. I went on to teach in Evergreen, CO. After moving to the Pikes Peak Region, I taught at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, created a private art school in Woodland Park and taught 20 years as an art teacher in the Woodland Park school district. During this time I earned my Masters degree in Creative Arts and Learning from Lesley College. I have worked as a graphic artist where I created and won awards for my outdoor interpretive exhibits, designed and painted sets for the Woodland Park Players and other theatre groups. I have exhibited my work in Denver and several regional art shows, including the Body Packaging ramp show. I like to work in many different media. Too many artists restrict themselves to only one. My subject matter, however, is usually people in daily activities. People are the most amazing creatures on earth. Each face tells a new story. I believe we can learn by listening and watching the younger and older generations. Due to this, I have created a series of paintings and drawings depicting a younger and older person together in a scene. Most of the time I work in a realistic style, but I am not limited to that. The most wonderful joy about being an artist is that there are no rules or limits on change and growth.
